WHAT
IS FLORIDA FIRST START?
FLORIDA
FIRST START is a program for parents of children
between the ages of birth through four. The program offers
parent education, guidance, and assistance in receiving
support services for both children and families.
Understanding
that the most crucial period in a child's life begins and is
shaped during the first 48 months of life, focus is placed
on helping parents enhance their child's growth and
development during these important first four
years.
WHO
IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE?
Parents of children between the ages of birth through four years of
age who live within specific geographic areas near selected
schools.
WHAT
ARE THE SERVICES OFFERED?

Center-based
developmentally appropriate practices for children.

Home
visits approximately every two weeks by trained
parent educators. Information will be given about
your child's growth and development, including home
safety, nutrition, discipline, and play
activities.

Parenting
skills workshops and family literacy and education
classes. These include, General Equivalency
Diplomas (GED); Adult Basic Education (ABE) and
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

Coordination
of educational and medical screenings.

Referrals
and assistance in receiving other community
services.
HOW
MUCH DOES IT COST?
There
are no fees required. The only requirement is your
willingness to participate and help get your child off to a great start.
